McCluskie pleaded guilty to stealing $225K from Becerra’s campaign account via fake payments.
Sean McCluskie, former chief of staff to Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud for stealing about $225,000 from Becerra’s dormant campaign account.
He conspired with Dana Williamson, a former top aide to Governor Gavin Newsom, and lobbyist Greg Campbell, who used his company to funnel money disguised as payments for work not performed.
McCluskie must repay the funds, and sentencing is set for February 26, 2026.
Williamson faces 23 counts, including falsifying pandemic-era loan documents and misrepresenting luxury expenses.
Campbell pleaded not guilty but is expected to change his plea in December and has pledged to end his lobbying activities.
Court records remain sealed.
