Louisiana schools hit record scores, but a new system may lower grades starting in 2026.
Louisiana public schools posted record-high performance in the 2024-2025 school year, with a statewide score of 80.9—the highest ever and a five-point gain since 2021—marking the fourth straight year of improvement. Over half of schools earned A or B grades, with 21% receiving As and 31% Bs. High schools showed strong results, with 70% earning top marks. The state will replace its current accountability system in 2026 with a new “Grow. Achieve. Thrive.” framework focused on student growth, mastery-level proficiency, and college, career, or military readiness. The new system is expected to lower scores for many schools, with officials projecting fewer than a third will earn As and Bs under the updated model.
