Lebanon arrested fugitive Noah Zaitar, a key figure in a drug and arms network, in a raid near Baalbek on November 20, 2025.
Lebanon’s military arrested Noah Zaitar, a fugitive linked to a major drug trafficking network, in a raid near Baalbek on November 20, 2025.
The operation, part of a broader crackdown on Captagon production and smuggling, targeted a man sanctioned by the U.S. and U.K. in 2023 over alleged ties to arms dealing, drug trafficking, Hezbollah, and Syria’s former Assad regime.
Zaitar, who had evaded capture for years and faced thousands of legal cases, surrendered after a standoff.
The arrest follows deadly clashes in the Bekaa Valley that killed two soldiers and one fugitive.
Authorities seized weapons and drugs during the operation.
The move is seen as a key step in Lebanon’s efforts to dismantle cross-border criminal networks and improve relations with Gulf states, particularly Saudi Arabia, which halted imports after discovering Captagon in shipments.
