Kenya launches a $20B, 10-year infrastructure plan to expand roads, rail, energy, and airports, starting January 2026.
President William Ruto announced a 10-year infrastructure plan on November 20, 2025, to dual 2,500 kilometers of roads and tarmac 28,000 km more, including major corridors like Nairobi–Nakuru and Mau Summit–Malaba, to boost transport, trade, and economic growth.
The initiative includes expanding the Standard Gauge Railway to Kisumu and Malaba, starting in January 2026, modernizing key airports, building 50 mega dams, and adding 10,000 megawatts to the national grid.
Funding will come from Public-Private Partnerships, a National Infrastructure Fund, and a Sovereign Wealth Fund, with construction beginning immediately on priority road projects.
