John Swinney was named Scotland’s Politician of the Year at The Herald’s 2025 awards, honored for his leadership as First Minister and efforts to address international trade issues, including a White House meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump to oppose a 10% tariff on Scotch whisky.
Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes won two awards for advancing government-business ties and environmental policy.
Other winners included Mairi McAllan as One to Watch, For Women Scotland for a Supreme Court victory on gender definition, Brian Leishman as Best Scot at Westminster, Elena Whitham as Donald Dewar Debater of the Year, Douglas Ross for committee oversight, Michael Marra for community service, and Willie Scobie for long-standing local leadership.
The event was held at Edinburgh’s Prestonfield House Hotel.
