Former SC Rep. RJ May charged with tax evasion on $323K income, facing up to 1 year per count.
Former South Carolina Rep. RJ May faces state charges for allegedly failing to file or pay income taxes from 2022 to 2024 while in office, with the Department of Revenue citing $323,000 in reported income and a $14,640 tax debt.
The charges, issued after a State House Ethics Committee hearing, follow his federal guilty plea to child sexual abuse material charges, for which he is set to be sentenced in January 2026.
May resigned in August and remains in custody.
If convicted, he could face up to one year in prison and $10,000 in fines per count.
The case is ongoing.
