A 24-year-old Dayton man, Matthew L. Cunnington, died in a crash Thursday morning west of Washtucna after his Ford F-150 failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Marcellus Road and State Route 26.
He struck a westbound truck-and-trailer combination, both vehicles were destroyed, and Cunnington, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver, Manuel Aguilar Diaz, 39, of Yakima, was unharmed and also wore a seatbelt.
The Washington State Patrol cited failure to stop at a stop sign as the cause, but it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and the roadway was closed with detours in place.
