Conor McGregor won court approval to sue Sky News for defamation over a 2024 report alleging a reporter called him a rapist, despite the one-year deadline passing.
Conor McGregor has won court approval to sue Sky News for defamation over a reported incident in November 2024, when a Sky News reporter allegedly shouted "You are a rapist" at him during a media scrum outside Dublin’s Four Courts.
The High Court granted permission for McGregor’s legal team to serve legal documents on Sky News UK, Sky News Ltd., and Sky News Ireland despite their location outside Ireland’s jurisdiction.
The claim stems from the aftermath of McGregor’s civil trial, in which he was found liable for assaulting Nikita Hand and ordered to pay €250,000 in damages and nearly €1.5 million in legal costs.
McGregor, who denies the allegations and is awaiting a Supreme Court decision on a further appeal, argues the broadcasted remark defamed him by implying guilt beyond the court’s verdict.
The one-year statute of limitations for defamation claims expired on November 22, 2025.
