Coat drives nationwide respond to rising poverty and cold weather, distributing thousands of coats to those in need.
As winter nears, coat drives across multiple U.S. cities—including Orlando, Cape Coral, Atlanta, Dayton, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Killeen, Port St. Lucie, Crestview, and Sebring—are addressing rising demand amid increased poverty and economic hardship. Recent data shows the U.S. poverty rate rose for the first time since 2010, with 29% of Americans classified as ALICE—employed but unable to afford basic living costs. A 2022 Brandeis University study found over 75% of low-income full-time workers cannot cover essential expenses, particularly among Hispanic and Black households. In response, nonprofit One Warm Coat has distributed over 7.85 million coats since 1992, and Stacker compiled local donation sites at shelters, churches, community centers, and retail locations nationwide, encouraging gently used or new coat donations to provide warmth and dignity to those in need.
