Two Gonzaga students arrested for throwing a firework that injured two people near Spokane’s Wall Street viaduct.
Two Gonzaga University students, Theodore Weymiller and Samuel Hopper, appeared in Spokane court on November 19, facing two counts of first-degree assault after a firework explosion on November 8 injured a teenage girl and a homeless man, who suffered severe hand injuries requiring emergency surgery at Harborview Medical Center.
Surveillance footage showed a white vehicle slowing before the device was thrown near the Wall Street viaduct.
Both men, seniors with no prior records, voluntarily surrendered.
Bail was set at $25,000 each.
Gonzaga University expressed sorrow, affirmed its commitment to human dignity, and confirmed cooperation with law enforcement.
The defendants are scheduled for arraignment on November 25.
