Two Ansaru leaders' trial delayed to Jan. 15, 2026, over missing case files; one pleaded guilty to illegal mining.
The trial of two alleged Ansaru terrorist leaders, Mahmud Usman and Abubakar Abba, has been postponed to January 15, 2026, in Abuja’s Federal High Court after their defense lawyer requested more time to review case files still held by the DSS.
The defendants, captured in May and July 2025, face 32 charges including terrorism, kidnapping, arms procurement, and illegal mining.
Usman pleaded guilty to one count of illegal mining and was sentenced to 15 years; Abba denies all charges.
The court ordered defense lawyers to follow proper DSS procedures to access the defendants.
