Liam Dowds sentenced to 4 years, 9 months for violent Tesco robbery and assaults in Belfast.
Liam Dowds, 44, was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for a series of violent crimes at a Belfast Tesco Express on July 9, 2024.
Over a two-hour period, he robbed the store three times, stole alcohol and £40, threatened staff with a knife, and assaulted three members of the public, including a woman who defended herself with an umbrella.
He also attacked three police officers during his arrest, including spitting on one and headbutting another.
Found with stolen items and cash in his socks, Dowds pleaded guilty to eight charges.
Judge Gordon Kerr cited his 126 prior convictions, substance abuse, and high re-offending risk, while noting his remorse and efforts to address addiction and mental health during remand.
