Iowa Sen. Mike Bousselot drops 2026 gubernatorial run, will seek re-election to state Senate.
Iowa Republican Senator Mike Bousselot has dropped his gubernatorial plans for 2026 and will instead run for re-election to the Iowa Senate in District 23, a seat vacated by retiring Majority Leader Jack Whitver due to a brain tumor.
Bousselot, who cited family and personal reflection as reasons for his decision, emphasized continuing work on affordability, business competitiveness, education, and public safety.
Whitver endorsed him.
Other candidates are running for governor, including U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra and state Auditor Rob Sand, while Attorney General Brenna Bird confirmed she will seek re-election.
