Archduke Eduard Habsburg, Hungary’s ambassador to the Holy See since 2015, is stepping down after a decade in Rome, calling it “the greatest 10 years of my life.” He highlighted his close ties with Pope Francis, who showed personal affection for Hungary, influenced by three sisters who fled the 1956 Soviet invasion.
Habsburg also shared positive interactions with Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and praised Pope Leo XIV, the first U.S.-born pope, for his global outlook and multilingualism.
Though leaving his post, he plans to stay involved in Church and pro-family international initiatives, underscoring the strong collaboration between Hungary and the Holy See on social and family values.
