A former UK police officer was given a 14-month suspended sentence for sex crimes committed off duty, banned from law enforcement, and added to the sex offenders’ register.
Former North Yorkshire police officer Paul Beckwith, 53, was sentenced to a 14-month suspended prison term for nine sexual offences, including voyeurism and possessing indecent images of children, all committed while serving but not on duty.
He was dismissed without notice in April 2025, banned from ever working in law enforcement, and placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
Chief Constable Tim Forber condemned the actions as “totally incompatible” with policing, citing harm to victims and damage to public trust.
Beckwith, who served 25 years and was involved in the Claudia Lawrence investigation, admitted to secretly filming victims and accessing illegal material, including 11 Category A images.
He lost his £120,000 pension and was ordered to complete rehabilitative and mental health programmes.
