Dozens of Colorado Democrats face ethics probe for staying at donor-funded Vail retreat.
More than a dozen Democratic Colorado lawmakers are under investigation by the state’s Independent Ethics Commission for attending a Vail retreat paid for in part by One Main Street Colorado, a nonprofit that doesn’t disclose donors.
The ethics commission voted to proceed with the investigation after complaints from Colorado Common Cause, alleging violations of the state’s gift ban by accepting lodging and meals valued over $75.
The retreat, organized by the Colorado Opportunity Caucus, included lawmakers and lobbyists.
Lawmakers deny wrongdoing, calling the allegations politically motivated, while the commission’s chair recused herself.
The investigation will determine if the lawmakers broke ethics rules and whether they must repay benefits received.
