Chinese man accused of leading global drug ring pleads not guilty in Brooklyn court.
Zhi Dong Zhang, a Chinese national known as “Brother Wang,” has pleaded not guilty in Brooklyn federal court to leading a global drug trafficking and money laundering ring that shipped thousands of kilograms of cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine into the U.S. and other countries.
Captured in Mexico City in October 2024, he escaped house arrest under military guard, was recaptured in Cuba, and transferred to the U.S. on October 23.
Prosecutors allege he used over 100 shell companies with fraudulent documents to launder at least $77 million, operating since at least 2016 with stash houses in Atlanta and Los Angeles.
He faces additional charges in Georgia and remains in custody ahead of his January court date.
U.S. officials called his return a major step in disrupting a network linked to addiction and violence.
