Charges against Melbourne lawyer Sarah Tricarico linked to Tony Mokbel were dropped due to flawed evidence.
Charges against Melbourne lawyer Sarah Tricarico, linked to underworld figures including Tony Mokbel, have been dropped after prosecutors conceded the evidence was flawed.
The case, tied to Operation Ironside—a joint Australian and U.S. effort that infiltrated the AN0N encrypted messaging app—alleged Tricarico and Youssef Raffoul tried to obstruct justice by deleting messages.
Defense lawyers challenged the reliability of linking them to anonymous handles like “The General” and “China888,” noting multiple users may have shared those identities.
Prosecutors acknowledged the case could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and withdrew charges.
Tricarico, who has represented Mokbel since 2017, had her legal license reinstated under supervision in May.
The Court of Appeal previously overturned two of Mokbel’s convictions due to tainted evidence from barrister-turned-informer Nicola Gobbo, leaving one charge potentially subject to retrial.
