Starting Dec. 14, 21 more South East rail stations will accept contactless payments, aligning with London’s fare system and offering lower single fares, caps, and off-peak options.
Starting December 14, 21 more stations on the Great Northern, Thameslink, and Southern lines will accept contactless payments, expanding a government-backed effort to simplify rail travel across the South East.
The rollout, part of the Department for Transport’s Plan for Change, brings contactless tapping to 50 stations total, with new fares modeled on Transport for London’s system.
Single fares will now be half the price of returns, peak times standardized from 6:30am to 9:30am and 4pm to 7pm, and off-peak options introduced for single journeys.
Daily and weekly fare caps apply, and payments integrate with London’s broader public transport network.
Affected stations include Hitchin, Stevenage, Luton, Ashtead, Dorking, and Reigate.
