Pakistan launches first standardized ship bunkering at Karachi Port using compliant fuel, ending truck deliveries and boosting maritime trade.
Pakistan has launched its first standardized ship bunkering service at Karachi Port, enabling vessels to refuel directly using internationally compliant very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO).
The milestone, driven by a partnership between Vitol and domestic refiner Cnergyico, marks the first time fuel was loaded directly from the Karachi Port Trust’s Oil Pier, eliminating truck deliveries.
The 6,800-metric-ton shipment, sourced from Cnergyico’s new VLSFO production after importing US crude, supports global shipping routes and enhances Pakistan’s role in maritime trade.
The initiative, aligned with international safety and environmental standards, aims to boost port revenues, attract shipping lines, and stimulate economic growth.
