Louisiana judge recommended for one-year suspension over ethics violations, including misuse of court resources and improper case handling.
The Louisiana Judiciary Commission has recommended a one-year suspension without pay for Shreveport City Court Judge Sheva Sims over multiple ethical violations, including using a court vehicle for personal travel, failing to enforce mandatory bond conditions, and improperly releasing defendants charged with domestic abuse.
The commission, which unanimously found her guilty, cited complaints from litigants, anonymous sources, and retired Justice Joseph Bleich, alleging she treated the court as her personal domain, denied evictions without cause, and independently gathered evidence.
Sims, who previously faced disciplinary actions in 2015 and 2016, is also required to pay $11,602 in investigation costs.
The Louisiana Supreme Court will now review the recommendation, with no decision date set.
