Ghana’s president vows to sign the anti-LGBTQ+ bill if Parliament passes it, following Supreme Court approval.
President John Dramani Mahama said he will sign Ghana’s Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill into law if Parliament passes it, reaffirming his support for traditional family values and gender as determined at birth during a meeting with the Christian Council of Ghana on November 18, 2025.
The bill, which criminalizes same-sex relations and LGBTQ+ advocacy, was previously passed in 2024 but not signed due to legal concerns.
The Supreme Court upheld its constitutionality in December 2024, clearing a major hurdle.
Now reintroduced as a private member’s bill, it must be debated and approved by the current Parliament to move forward.
Mahama emphasized respect for legislative processes and the will of Parliament, signaling strong presidential backing amid ongoing debate over human rights and cultural values.
