Delhi is launching eco-friendly river cruises on the Yamuna River, with electric-solar hybrid boats set to operate along a 6-7 km stretch upstream of the Wazirabad Barrage.
The Rs 20 crore project, part of National Waterway 110, aims to boost sustainable tourism and urban connectivity, featuring two floating jetties, onshore amenities, and safety-equipped vessels carrying 30–40 passengers.
Developed by IWAI with Delhi government support, it aligns with India’s green mobility push, including electric catamarans in Varanasi and Ayodhya, and trials of a hydrogen fuel-cell vessel.
The initiative supports broader national waterway expansion, with cargo traffic reaching a record 146 million tonnes in the past year.
