The Colorado State Patrol is boosting patrols in mountain counties due to incoming winter storms bringing 1 to 4 inches of snow along I-70 and up to six inches at higher elevations. Extra enforcement begins Friday to target impaired drivers and promote safe driving, as last winter saw nearly 12,000 crashes. Officials urge drivers to obey speed limits, avoid distractions, wear seatbelts, and drive sober. Winter traction laws require all-wheel or four-wheel drive, winter tires, or chains. Vehicle maintenance and emergency kits with shovels, blankets, and food are also recommended.
