Adams MultiMedia to acquire The Gazette and 14 Iowa publications, returning it to family ownership by Dec. 1, 2025.
Adams MultiMedia, a Minnesota-based media company, has agreed to acquire The Gazette and 11 community newspapers, along with three shopper publications, in a deal set to close by December 1, 2025.
The acquisition, announced on November 18, marks Adams MultiMedia’s entry into Iowa and returns The Gazette to family ownership, a model it has maintained for much of its 143-year history.
The transaction follows financial challenges for local journalism, with Folience Inc., the current employee-owned operator since 2021, citing sustainability concerns.
Adams MultiMedia, which owns over 120 newspapers and 220 digital products across 19 states, plans to enhance digital content, expand advertising solutions, and use shared services to support local newsrooms.
The Gazette will continue publishing a daily digital edition and three print editions weekly.
Most current employees are expected to transition under the new ownership.
