A 79-year-old retired police officer died from pneumonia and infection after a swallowing disorder procedure.

Brian Darton, a 79-year-old retired Essex Police officer, died two weeks after a medical procedure to treat a swallowing disorder. He was admitted to Colchester Hospital in July, underwent a fluoroscopy and feeding tube insertion in August, developed an infection at the tube site, and died five days later. A post-mortem cited pneumonia and a peg site infection as primary causes, with multiple underlying health conditions contributing. A full inquest will be held later, and the coroner offered condolences to his family.
