Brian Darton, a 79-year-old retired Essex Police officer, died two weeks after a medical procedure to treat a swallowing disorder.
He was admitted to Colchester Hospital in July with breathing issues, underwent a fluoroscopy and feeding tube insertion in August, developed an infection at the tube site, and died despite antibiotic treatment.
A post-mortem cited pneumonia and a peg site infection as primary causes, with underlying conditions including heart failure, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease contributing.
A full inquest will be held later, and the coroner expressed condolences to his family.
