A 79-year-old former police officer died from pneumonia and infection after a swallowing treatment procedure.
Brian Darton, a 79-year-old retired Essex Police officer, died two weeks after a medical procedure to treat a swallowing disorder at Colchester Hospital.
He was admitted in July with coughing and breathlessness, underwent a fluoroscopy and feeding tube insertion in August, developed an infection at the tube site four days later, and died five days after that.
A post-mortem identified pneumonia and a peg site infection as primary causes of death, with multiple underlying health conditions contributing.
A full inquest will be held later, and the coroner extended condolences to his family.
