flag A 79-year-old former cop died from infection and pneumonia after a swallowing treatment procedure.

Brian Darton, a 79-year-old retired Essex Police officer, died two weeks after a medical procedure to treat a swallowing disorder. He was admitted to Colchester Hospital in July with breathing issues and underwent a fluoroscopy and feeding tube insertion in August. Four days later, he developed an infection at the tube site, was treated with antibiotics, but died five days after that. A post-mortem found pneumonia and a peg site infection as primary causes of death, with multiple underlying health conditions contributing. A full inquest will be held later, and the coroner extended condolences to his family.
