UK banks' deposit protection rises to £120,000 from Dec. 1, 2025, to combat inflation and strengthen trust.
The UK’s deposit protection limit is rising to £120,000 per person per bank, effective December 1, 2025, up from £85,000 since 2017, to reflect inflation and boost confidence in the banking system.
The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) will cover up to this amount automatically if a bank fails.
Temporary high balances, like those from home sales, will be protected up to £1.4 million for six months.
The change, approved by the Prudential Regulation Authority, is the first increase in eight years and follows consultation and economic data.
