Texas sets Jan. 31, 2026, runoff to fill U.S. House seat left vacant by Rep. Sylvester Turner’s death.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has set January 31, 2026, for a special election runoff to fill the U.S. House seat in Texas’ 18th Congressional District, vacated by the death of Representative Sylvester Turner in March 2025.
The runoff will feature Democrats Christian Menefee, the acting Harris County Attorney, and Amanda Edwards, a former Houston City Council member, who advanced after neither secured a majority in the November 4, 2025, special election.
The district, which includes parts of inner-city Houston, was previously represented by Sheila Jackson Lee, who died in 2024, and her daughter served in a special election.
The winner will complete Turner’s unexpired term.
Early voting begins January 21, 2026.
