Samantha Washburn, 31, of Terre Haute, was charged with five counts of animal cruelty after authorities found over a dozen malnourished dogs and cats at her home on Nov. 7.
The investigation began Nov. 5 when Happy Tails Animal Rescue rescued two severely underweight dogs, Ida and Arlo, from the 2600 block of Arleth Street.
A search warrant revealed three additional dogs and eleven cats in poor health.
The home was deemed uninhabitable, leading to the removal of three children by the Indiana Department of Child Services.
Washburn, who initially claimed the dogs belonged to her sister, later admitted ownership.
The animals were taken to a rescue, with Ida and Arlo showing signs of recovery.
Washburn appeared in court on Nov. 17, and prosecutors have not yet announced additional charges.
