Parents at Victoria's Catholic schools regained limited portal access after a month-long cyber shutdown.
Parents at Catholic schools across Victoria have regained partial access to the SIMON Schools portal as of November 17, nearly a month after a cybersecurity incident on October 24 forced its shutdown.
The system, used by schools in Ballarat, Bendigo, Wodonga, and the south-west, was taken offline due to suspicious activity involving unauthorized user credentials.
While staff and students had limited access restored via private networks, the parent portal remained unavailable for over three weeks, prompting schools to switch to paper-based communication.
Security upgrades, including multi-factor authentication, have been implemented, allowing web browser access for parents, though the mobile app remains disabled.
The Diocese of Ballarat confirmed no sensitive data was accessed and no other systems were compromised, apologizing for the disruption and urging parents to contact individual schools for assistance.
