A Nigerian court sentenced former law dean Cyril Ndifon to five years in prison for sexually harassing a student.
A Nigerian federal court in Abuja sentenced Cyril Ndifon, former dean of the University of Calabar’s law faculty, to five years in prison for two counts of sexual harassment involving a female student, with sentences running concurrently.
The judge found the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Ndifon, in a position of authority, coerced a diploma student into sending pornographic images and performing sexual acts in exchange for admission into the law program.
The court noted the abuse of power and the victim’s vulnerability, while acquitting co-defendant Sunny Anyanwu due to insufficient evidence linking him to the alleged offenses.
The ruling upheld the prosecution’s case despite Ndifon’s earlier attempt to quash the charges.
