A lawsuit blames SoCal Edison and Genasys for Stacey Darden’s death in the Jan. 2025 Eaton Fire, citing faulty equipment and delayed evacuation alerts.
A lawsuit filed on November 17, 2025, blames Southern California Edison and Genasys Inc. for the death of Stacey Darden during the January 2025 Eaton Fire, alleging Edison’s equipment sparked the fire and Genasys failed to issue timely evacuation alerts to residents west of Lake Avenue, where Darden lived.
Despite warnings sent to areas east of the road, residents west of Lake Avenue received no alerts until after 5:43 a.m. on January 8—after Darden’s last known phone activity at 3:30 a.m. Of the 19 fatalities, 18 were in that area.
SoCal Edison acknowledged the lawsuit and is reviewing the claims; Genasys did not respond.
