Hawaii is reducing speed limits on parts of Route 19 to boost safety in high-risk areas.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation is lowering speed limits on four segments of Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) to improve safety.
Speeds will drop from 55 mph to 45 mph near Pepeʻekeo and Honokaʻa, and from 45 mph to 35 mph near Pāpaʻikou and Pepeʻekeo, targeting areas with high pedestrian activity, residential zones, and hazardous intersections.
New signage will be installed within 30 days, after which the changes will take effect.
The move is part of a broader effort to reduce traffic incidents and enhance safety for all road users.
