A California judge has dismissed a proposed class-action lawsuit by about 6,000 Black Tesla workers at the Fremont factory, ruling it cannot proceed as a class action due to insufficient willingness among plaintiffs to testify.
The decision, reversing a 2024 certification, cited logistical and evidentiary challenges in representing the large group.
The lawsuit, filed in 2017 and led by former worker Marcus Vaughn, alleged systemic racial harassment including racist slurs, graffiti, and nooses.
Tesla denies wrongdoing and says it has fired employees for misconduct.
The case may now proceed only as individual claims.
A separate trial over similar allegations is set for April 2026, and Tesla faces federal race discrimination claims from the EEOC.
