Archbishop Stephen Wood suspended over misconduct allegations; denial and inquiry ongoing.
Archbishop Stephen Wood of the Anglican Church in North America has been suspended from ministry amid allegations of sexual misconduct, bullying, plagiarism, and harassment, according to reports.
The suspension, effective November 16, 2025, was announced by new dean Bishop Julian Dobbs and approved by senior bishops, though it does not indicate guilt.
Wood, who previously took a paid leave, denies all claims.
A board of inquiry has been formed to assess whether the allegations warrant a trial, though the process is delayed due to leadership changes, including the resignation of former dean Bishop Ray Sutton over health and conflict-of-interest concerns.
Sutton apologized for a prior misstatement.
During the suspension, Wood continues to receive his salary, and the Diocese of the Carolinas is under interim leadership.
The ACNA, founded in 2009 by conservative Anglicans who left the Episcopal Church, has about 130,000 members across 1,000 congregations in the U.S. and Canada.
