Ahmed Makarfi resigns as PDP BoT secretary due to zoning rules after north-westerner Kabiru Turaki became chairman.
Ahmed Makarfi, former governor of Kaduna and secretary of the PDP’s Board of Trustees, has resigned effective November 17, 2025, citing the party’s zoning rule that mandates the national chairman and BoT secretary come from different geopolitical zones.
His resignation follows the election of Kabiru Turaki, a north-westerner, as PDP national chairman.
Makarfi, also from the north-west, had planned to step down earlier but agreed to stay until after the party’s national convention.
He formally submitted his resignation to BoT chairman Adolphus Wabara, emphasizing the need to uphold regional balance and avoid perceptions of favoritism in leadership.
