Stonegate Group plans to sell 1,000 pubs for up to £1 billion to cut debt and stabilize finances.
Stonegate Group, the UK’s largest pub operator, is considering selling around 1,000 of its 4,300 venues—primarily high-performing "platinum" sites—for up to £1 billion to address over £3 billion in debt from its 2019 Ei Group merger and ongoing financial pressures.
The move follows a failed 2023 sale attempt and comes as a non-call period on a £638 million Apollo loan ends in January, enabling new options.
No closures are planned, and the company continues operations normally, having already listed 23 pubs for sale.
The financial strain stems from pandemic fallout, high interest rates, rising energy and labor costs, and a £214 million loss in 2024.
The company is also shifting to tenanted and leased models to improve profitability.
