Northern Ireland GPs reject Health Minister's contract, demand more funding amid threat to services.
GPs in Northern Ireland have passed a no-confidence vote in Health Minister Mike Nesbitt, demanding renewed talks over funding after he imposed the 2025/26 GP contract without agreement.
The British Medical Association cited a £9 million funding offer as insufficient compared to the £80 million GPs say is needed to sustain services.
The vote also expressed no confidence in the Department of Health and signaled openness to alternative care models outside the current NHS structure.
Dr Frances O’Hagan said the move reflects frustration over stalled negotiations and a desire to prevent further disruptions to essential services like vaccinations, warning that escalation could follow if talks fail.
Nesbitt acknowledged concerns and said dialogue remains possible.
