Nepal's remittances surged 29% in 2025, boosting reserves to $21.21B, yet growth remains slow.
Nepal's remittance inflows hit $3.94 billion from mid-July to mid-October 2025, a 29.2% increase from the same period last year, while foreign exchange reserves rose to $21.21 billion, up 8.7%.
The central bank said reserves can cover 19.9 months of merchandise imports and 16.4 months of combined imports.
A record monthly inflow of Rs201.22 billion in September–October was driven by stronger dollars, stricter anti-money laundering rules, festive spending, and increased migration, especially to Western nations.
Despite strong remittances and reserves, economic growth remains slow due to low development spending and weak demand.
