A Maoist couple surrendered in Odisha, ending a seven-year insurgency linked to a key rebel corridor.
A Maoist couple from Chhattisgarh, Unga Kalmu, 25, and Mase Madvi, 22, surrendered to Odisha police in Kandhamal district, ending their seven-year involvement with the CPI(Maoist)’s Bansadhara-Ghumsar-Nagabali unit.
They were linked to maintaining a key North-South corridor across Odisha and Chhattisgarh and cited internal group misconduct, anti-Naxal operations, and disillusionment as reasons for leaving.
Both carried a reward of 1 lakh rupees each and formally laid down arms before senior police officials.
Their surrender is seen as a boost for anti-Maoist efforts in the region, with the couple set to enter the government’s rehabilitation program.
