Locksley and Columbia University are developing sustainable rare earth extraction at California’s El Campo site to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign sources.
Locksley Resources has partnered with Columbia University to develop sustainable methods for extracting rare earths from its El Campo prospect in California’s Mojave Desert, near the Mountain Pass mine.
The project, led by Professor Greeshma Gadikota, aims to boost U.S. domestic production of critical minerals for defense, electric vehicles, and clean energy, reducing reliance on foreign sources like China.
Early sampling found high-grade rare earth oxides, including neodymium and praseodymium, key for high-performance magnets.
The work supports a $355 million federal funding initiative and builds on prior research with Rice University, using advanced processing techniques.
A drilling campaign will further assess the site’s potential.
