India temporarily restricts platinum jewellery imports to protect domestic industry and prevent duty evasion.
India has imposed temporary import restrictions on certain platinum jewellery, effective immediately until April 30, 2026, reclassifying it from "Free" to "Restricted" under the DGFT.
Importers now need a licence to bring in unstudded or semi-finished platinum jewellery, aiming to prevent exploitation of trade agreements, curb duty evasion, and protect domestic industries.
The move follows similar restrictions on silver jewellery introduced in September 2025.
