India ships first jet fuel to U.S. West Coast amid refinery fire and low inventories.
India has shipped its first-ever jet fuel cargo to the U.S. West Coast, delivering about 472,800 barrels from its Jamnagar refinery to Los Angeles aboard the Hafnia Kallang, expected in early December.
The move follows a fire at Chevron’s El Segundo refinery, which has disrupted jet fuel production and driven West Coast inventories to a three-month low of 11.12 million barrels.
While the shipment presents a rare arbitrage opportunity, traders say regular imports from India are unlikely due to higher shipping costs compared to established routes from Northeast Asia, where exports to the U.S. West Coast reached five-month highs.
U.S. West Coast jet fuel prices remain about $10 per barrel above Singapore’s benchmark.
