The U.S. Coast Guard rescued eight boaters Saturday evening after their 26-foot vessel became disabled about 35 miles west of Venice, Florida, in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Venice Police Department reported the boat missing at 1:44 p.m., prompting a search.
A Coast Guard HC-144 aircrew located the vessel at 9:32 p.m. in 2- to 3-foot seas with no injuries.
Officials stressed the importance of sharing boating plans, carrying life jackets, VHF radios, signaling devices, and emergency beacons.
