Blue Origin first successfully recovered a New Glenn rocket booster, launching NASA’s Mars-bound EscaPADE satellites.
Blue Origin successfully recovered the first stage of its New Glenn rocket for the first time, landing the 17-story booster on an autonomous barge in the Atlantic after a launch from Cape Canaveral.
The mission, delayed by weather and geomagnetic conditions, also deployed NASA’s twin EscaPADE spacecraft to study Mars’ atmosphere and magnetic field interactions with solar wind.
The satellites, built by Rocket Lab and funded by NASA at $18 million, are part of a 22-month mission.
While the recovery marks a major step for Blue Origin’s reusable launch ambitions, SpaceX still leads in flight frequency, reliability, and government contracts.
