Two Britons arrested at India-Nepal border for entering illegally; investigation ongoing.
Two British nationals, Dr. Hassan Amman Saleem, 35, and Dr. Sumitra Shakeel Olivia, 61, were arrested on November 15 at the Rupaideha border crossing in Uttar Pradesh after entering India illegally from Nepal.
Security forces from the Sashastra Seema Bal and Uttar Pradesh Police detained them during heightened checks following a Red Fort blast.
Both lacked valid Indian visas and could not verify claims of traveling to Nepal for a medical invitation.
The man, of Pakistani origin, and the woman, originally from Karnataka, were handed over to police, who filed a case under the Passport Act, 1967.
They are set to appear in court.
The incident is under investigation.
