Taiwan warns against five Chinese AI apps over security flaws, data risks, and political bias.
Taiwan’s National Security Bureau warns against using five Chinese AI apps—DeepSeek, Doubao, Yiyan, Tongyi, and Yuanbao—due to serious cybersecurity flaws and political bias.
Inspections found all violated multiple data security standards, with Tongyi failing 11 of 15 checks, and all collected excessive user data, including location and device info.
The apps consistently promoted China’s official stance on Taiwan and sensitive issues, avoiding terms like “democracy” and “freedom.” The NSB cited risks of data being transferred to China and subject to disclosure under Chinese law.
While DeepSeek is banned on government devices, no such restrictions apply to the others or to private use.
